Four years ago, the State Government approved a massive $2billion pulp mill at Penola in the South East of SA without requiring an EIS or any other credible assessment. It was forced throught Parliament with minimal debate. Now the proponents say that the money is just around the corner. I don't believe them. They've been saying this for 4 years. Smart money knows better than to accept hollow assurances that the project is viable. The Greens support value adding of plantation timber, but for goodness sakes - do it properly! A pulp mill that is non-polluting, greenhouse neutral and doesn't risk scarce and declining ground water resources could well be a winner, but a lot more work is needed before I'll be convinced. http://ow.ly/27TSi
