Murray gets another drip feed

South Australia shouldn’t have to go cap in hand to the Eastern States every time it rains, says Greens MLC Mark Parnell.
“This is a crazy way to manage our greatest river,” said Mr Parnell.
"The environment shouldn’t have to beg for water. And neither should South Australia.
"We desperately need an independent national authority with the powers to ensure that vital floodwaters are allowed to revive a parched and struggling river system,” he said.
Today, Premier Mike Rann announced another small allocation of water has been negotiated for the Murray from the Christmas rains, and negotiations would begin to see if any more water can be secured from the most recent floods in Queensland.
“These increasingly rare back to back flooding events must not be wasted,” Mr Parnell said.
“The whole length of the River Murray system desperately needs a substantial revitalising soak.
"Yet instead of a much need drink, it seems the slow drip feed to the Lower Lakes and Coorong will continue,” he said.
