Solar bonus scheme up in the air

17/03/10 8:00 am

Greens MLC Mark Parnell has called on both Labor and Liberal to come clean on their plans for the SA household solar ‘feed-in’ credit scheme after Saturday’s state election.

The solar bonus scheme pays a bonus to households who export electricity into the grid from the solar panels on their roof.

“SA voters have every right to know what will happen to the scheme after March 20,” said Greens MLC Mark Parnell.

“The Rann Government has sat for the last couple of months on a review, and both the Labor and Liberal parties have so far failed to make any election announcements about the future of the scheme.

“I think it’s fair to suggest that if Labor was planning to expand the solar credit scheme, or make it more generous, the Premier would have been literally shouting it from the roof-tops as part of his election campaigning.

“The fact that they haven’t is a very worrying sign for household solar panel owners,” he said.

A long over due formal Review into the scheme commenced in October last year. The Government’s Terms of Reference flagged an intention to slash the maximum size of solar system eligible by a third.

The Greens will introduce legislation after the State Election to transform the SA solar ‘feed-in’ credit scheme into a more generous ‘gross’ credit scheme as part of a grand ambition to put solar on every South Australian roof.
